Honey Bun

Where do I begin? As a child, I had so many pets that I was completely adamant about NOT having any pets as an adult. I purposely turned myself off to even the most adorable pets because I didn't want the responsibility.

Well, life changes..........I got married to a man who has been begging for a dog for over 5 years. One day, a little over a year ago, my husband told me about a breed of dog that he was extremely interested in. A couple of his friends are police officers who informed him of the Belgian Malinois. Ever since that day, he has been NAGGING me to get one.

After a few weeks of needling me, I realized he was not going to give up. I finally did some research, and was directed to Midwest Malinois. After speaking with Kevin, HE determined we were not yet ready for a Malinois as we didn't have a fenced-in yard, kennel, or the TIME needed to successfully raise a dog.

It is now over a year later and my husband was recently laid off from his job. He once again began making comments about getting a dog. We decided to take a closer look at the suggestions Kevin had made to us and we re-visited the idea of getting a dog. We put up a fence, bought a kennel, training crates, and all the necessities needed. We determined this would be the best time to "try" to have a dog. I was still very concerned about the idea, but my husband was persistent.

Once again, we contacted Kevin at Midwest Malinois to let him know that we did everything he suggested and that my husband really wanted a puppy from him. We got so lucky as Kevin had ONE FEMALE PUP available! We dropped everything we were doing and drove right over. My husband instantly fell in love with HONEY BUN. We left her with Kevin until she was old enough for us to keep her. A little over a week later, HONEY BUN was ours. When Kevin turned HONEY BUN over to us, I could see the joy she brought to my husband and I just KNEW this was the dog for him. Although I held her, I was still not comfortable with this new life we were about to endure.

Kevin gave us some advice on how to handle Honey. He advised of how to use the squirt bottle, to whisper to her, and how to crate train. It took ME only ONE night to fall in love with this dog. She fussed a little and when she did, we used the squirt bottle. She only did that a few times and was perfect for the rest of her first night with us. At this stage, if she is naughty at all, I simply pull out the squirt bottle. She only needs to SEE it and she stops whatever she is doing. It took me that first night to realize this is not just any dog. This is the smartest dog I have ever seen. She was potty trained INSTANTLY. She never had a single accident on my watch, and she has yet to. She knows exactly where to go to relieve herself. Same corner of the yard, every time out.

After bringing her home, we contacted our Vet as Kevin suggested. When we got to the Vet, the staff was so excited to see Honey Bun. Some of the staff had never even seen or heard of a Malinois. The routine vaccinations were done. In addition, she had a physical exam and fecal samples were tested. The Vet stated that the breeder had really done a great job with Honey Bun as she was perfectly healthy.

We have incorporated Honey Bun into our daily lives as if she were a human being. She is SMARTER than many PEOPLE I KNOW! We taught her to "come" and "sit" in only a few minutes. My husband spends quality time with her when I am away at work. Since she came home with us five weeks ago, he has put a patio in the back yard, created a "shade" shelter, bought a "puppy pool", and put up a rope swing for her to climb and tug on. He plays with her so much, his waist has come in 2 belt notches since we brought her home. I get to take her for daily walks before and after work. We often fuss over who gets to hold her and pet her. I can't believe I have become a CHANGED PERSON, all because of this dog. I truly don't think just "any dog" could have made me the person she has changed me into. I LOVE HER - she is so delightful to have around. She plays so well - with TONS of energy.

I was going to make this testimonial all about MY HUSBAND and HIS DOG, but as I started typing, I realized, she truly is a member of the family and loved equally by both of us! Ok, maybe he loves her a teeny weenie bit more - but only because he sings the cutest songs to her. We set up a camera system in the back yard so we can see her at all times - even when we are in the house. My husband doesn't know, but I secretly watch them play together and it is the cutest thing!

Thank you so much Kevin & Joyce for all the hard work you did breeding our Honey Bun and taking care of her until she was ready for us. You do an amazing job. I can't wait to share her accomplishments with you over the years. Thanks again! We wouldn't want any other puppy!

P.S. We start socialization and obedience classes on Monday so I hope we have an update for you real soon.
